Chapter 631 — The Divine Eye Reveals Its Might

The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2

In his heart there was some doubt: "Strange. When I use this one sword-path divine power, my vital essence is consumed by seven or eight parts. Why is it that now I feel my vital essence still brimming, like well water, seemingly inexhaustible.

.

.

" He felt his vital essence remain at its peak, as though it could never be spent.

He had fought so long, had used nearly every divine power and battle technique at least once, had unleashed no small number of great divine powers that consumed enormous dharma power, and yet his vital essence had not diminished in the least.

More bizarre still, he even felt his vital essence cultivation rising at flying speed!

This completely defied common sense.

Then, in an instant, he perceived where the problem lay. It was the third eye at his brow.

Every time he killed a person, vast vital essence flowed out from within that eye and into his whole body, as though it were a reward; the more people he killed, the richer the reward. "Strange, strange. There is indeed something very wrong with this eye.

. . " Chi — Ten li of sword-light pierced the Buddha-child Puzhao's skull, the radiance dazzling beyond measure, lighting up half the sky.

And Puzhao's move, Illuminating All Beings, its power overwhelming, struck only empty air; Shen Mu had long since used the Sky-Skimming Divine Legs to get far away.

Puzhao's eyes were blank and lifeless as he pitched forward.

Behind him, the sword radiance abruptly contracted into a tiny sword pellet that spun down from the air; before it landed, the pellet suddenly swelled into nine long dragons, heads down, tails up, tangled together like a great cover, and with a clang it clamped down over a Buddha-child.

Within the Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Shroud, firelight and sword-light burst forth, pulverizing that Buddha-child and burning him to ash.

At the same moment, Shen Mu, having landed, raised a hand; the Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Shroud flew to him, shrinking swiftly, and became a great hammer in his grip. Shen Mu roared in fury, firelight surging skyward behind him like a great volcano erupting; he hurled the hammer forward, smashing with all the strength of his flesh, and struck the chest of a Buddha-child charging at him.

In the instant he hurled the hammer, the muscles of his legs tensed and he charged forward with a boom.

That Buddha-child's chest caved in; driven by the hammer, he flew backward, trees on either side shrieking past in streaks of light, and the trees behind him burst apart with thuds as he crashed through them.

But the next moment, Shen Mu was before him, reaching out to seize the hammer's shaft.

The hammer flowed like water, becoming a long spear, and he lifted the Buddha-child on the spear's tip; Shen Mu shook the spear, and the Buddha-child flew apart in four pieces!

"Do not fight each on your own!

" Prince Fuyun cried sharply: "Gather together, all of you, come to my side, and use the Buddha Eye divine power to refine him to death! " The surviving Buddha-children, pursuing Shen Mu, were hurling divine powers and primal weapons at him yet could scarcely catch his figure; hearing this, they understood at once and gathered around Prince Fuyun. One after another the Buddha-children swiftly formed a wall of bodies, one treading on another's shoulders, another on a third's, stacked together, sixty-four in number.

"Buddha Eye, open!

" The sixty-four Buddha-children pressed their palms together; some had three heads and six arms, some a body with two faces, some the true body of a Wisdom King, some the frame of an Arhat; each urged his Buddha Eye.

"Sweep away the demonic miasma, subdue demons and vanquish evil! " Their voices were mighty; the momentum of them all joined as one, like walls of bronze and iron, their force like a city.

Shua — Buddha light gathered into a flood, massed together, shaking mountains and splitting stone, making space itself tremble without cease, and shot forth at Shen Mu!

At once the Buddha light was dense beyond measure, the Buddha sound mighty beyond measure; wherever that sound passed, all things were shaken into powder! Shen Mu had just killed that Buddha-child with a spear thrust; now he shook the great spear, and it became a great turtle-snake shield before him.

Boom — His body shuddered violently; man and shield were blasted into the air.

The great shield before him was formed of eight thousand swords, and now it could no longer hold its shield shape; sword after sword was shaken by the Buddha light, quivering, on the verge of collapse!

Shen Mu grunted, spat blood; his body was blasted out of that island in the golden sea of Buddha light and crashed into a mountain peak jutting from the golden sea.

Prince Fuyun and the other sixty-four Buddha-children rose into the air and came above the golden sea, and in midair they shouted in unison again: "The Buddha Dharma is boundless; the Arhats descend to the world!

" Weng — Buddha light blazed in their eyes once more; all the Buddha light gathered and once more blasted down at the place where Shen Mu had fallen! "You only dare to rely on numbers.

Do you think I fear you?

" Before the Buddha light reached that mountain peak, the rocks of the peak burst apart, and Shen Mu shot skyward, hair loose over his shoulders, both hands clasped before him, forming a strange seal.

As the seal took shape, his three eyes grew brighter and brighter. The left was yang, the right was yin; the left eye held the True Fire of the Sun, the right the True Fire of the Moon, yet neither could compare with the third eye at his brow.

From the third eye at his brow, a butterfly-wing pattern spilled out and spread, like a butterfly just broken from its chrysalis slowly stretching its wings.

This vertical eye grew stranger and more uncanny; suddenly Shen Mu's hand-seal was complete, and he flung both hands back, head snapping forward, and with a boom three beams of light shot from his three eyes.

The Buddha light collided with the divine light of his three eyes; in midair the wall of sixty-four Buddha-children collapsed with a crash, severed limbs and broken arms flying everywhere!

"Satu, Mahabaha.

.

.

" Shen Mu was just about to wipe them out at a single stroke when suddenly an obscure Youdu tongue came from his mouth, and he was startled: "What is happening?

Why did I suddenly speak the Youdu tongue? " Even as he thought this, he suddenly began to laugh: "Hee hee, there are enough offerings now.

The souls of these bald ones do not taste bad.

. .

" Shen Mu put out his tongue and licked his lips, then suddenly became alert: "No.

I did not intend to do that!

What is wrong with me?

" "Wretched beast! " Suddenly a thunderous roar came, and a Buddha flew through the air, his great hand pressing down, crying sternly: "So you truly are a demon, beyond all cure.

Today this Buddha in his thunderous wrath will wipe you out utterly! " "You cannot beat him, can you?

" Shen Mu laughed: "If you cannot beat him, then give me back my body, and see how I tear him apart. " Having said this, he could not help but feel a chill of horror.

These words were plainly his own, and yet they were not his own thought at all!
