Chapter 4 — Gaze

"Your wife?" Lin Qing had been full of anger just moments before, wanting to demand why Teng Xuanji had lied to her, but when she heard the word "wife," she was completely stunned. "You, didn't you just graduate from university, just walk out of college? How do you already have a wife?"

"University?"

Teng Xuanji shook his head. "I never went to university." In fact, even the glasses were fake, merely a simple disguise.

"You, you..." Lin Qing's mind was completely in chaos.

"Sorry, I have been lying to you all along. Saying my home was in the mountains was a lie, and saying I had just graduated from university was also a lie." Teng Xuanji smiled faintly. "Lin Qing, I do have important matters, and it is not convenient for you to be involved. So I kept lying to you. Many things are complicated to explain. The best thing is for you to pretend you never met me."

Lin Qing had already felt that Teng Xuanji was mysterious, because of the astonishing strength and terrifying physical stamina he had displayed in the Greater Khingan Mountains in the Northeast. And now, Lin Qing felt even more strongly that Teng Xuanji was mysterious.

"Pretend I never met you?" Lin Qing stared at Teng Xuanji.

Teng Xuanji nodded.

Lin Qing could feel the coldness hidden deep in his heart, as though he were resisting anyone getting close to him, anyone understanding him.

"You have been lying to me all this time. Don't you think you should make it up to me?" Lin Qing asked in return.

"Make it up?" Teng Xuanji frowned.

"Are you busy today?" Lin Qing asked quickly.

Teng Xuanji nodded slightly. "In the afternoon, I will be at the cafe next door all afternoon."

"Good." Lin Qing smiled and nodded. "My demands are not high. You drink tea here, and I will sit with you. In the afternoon you go to the cafe, and I will go to the cafe too. I can sit nearby. If you need to meet any guests, I will not interfere. I just want to spend the day with you. How about it?"

Teng Xuanji was somewhat puzzled. Just to spend a day with him?

If she insisted on staying nearby, he could not stop her anyway.

"All right." Teng Xuanji nodded, and Lin Qing revealed a faint smile.
