Chapter 581 — Wei Zhao's Fury
Tang Yun was not sure. After all, when Wei Zhao first took an interest in her, it must have been because she was pretty, hadn't it?
"Heh..." Wei Zhao suddenly laughed.
"You... what are you laughing at? Are you mocking me?" Tang Yun glared at Wei Zhao in angry reproach.
"If it's ruined, then it's ruined." Wei Zhao shrugged.
"Then — what I'm asking is, do you still want me?" Tang Yun stared at Wei Zhao without blinking.
"Of course I do. How could I not?" Wei Zhao nodded.
"Uh..." Tang Yun found she did not know what to say. What did Wei Zhao mean by that?
Just then, Fatty Lai came into the ward, panting for breath. It was no small feat for him — all that fat, and running so fast.
"Boss, I'm here!" Fatty Lai held up two boxes and came trotting up to Wei Zhao. But when he lowered his head, he caught sight of Tang Yun on the sickbed and could not help crying out in alarm: "Sis-in-law, what's happened to you? How did you get hurt?"
That was exactly what Wei Zhao wanted to know too, but he had not yet found the moment for it. He had only just cleared up the misunderstanding with Tang Yun, and now that Fatty Lai had brought the medicine over, Wei Zhao would naturally treat Tang Yun first. He did not want her face to be truly ruined.
"That can wait a while." Wei Zhao took the boxes from Fatty Lai's hands and said to Tang Yun: "Tang Yun, let me put some medicine on it for you."
"Oh..." Tang Yun nodded without a second thought. Her whole being was steeped in sweetness and joy, and she knew Wei Zhao would never harm her; whatever he wanted to do, she would go along with it.
Wei Zhao reached out, raised Tang Yun up, and began to unwrap the bandage on her head — which gave Mother Tang and Liu Xinwen a great fright.
"Um... Wei Zhao, what are you doing?" Seeing Wei Zhao unwrap the bandage on her daughter's head, Mother Tang had no idea what he intended.
"Treating the wound." Wei Zhao answered without pausing; his hands moved swiftly, stripping away the gauze. Perhaps it pulled at the wound on Tang Yun's head — her body gave a slight shudder, and she could not help frowning.
On Tang Yun's forehead was a wound that made the heart lurch. It had been stitched closed, yet it remained fierce and frightful to look at. Pain stabbed at Wei Zhao's heart. How could the girl have been so careless? Thank heaven he had the trauma ointment; otherwise she really would have been disfigured.
"Don't be afraid. It won't hurt in a moment." Wei Zhao opened the box of analgesic and spread it evenly over Tang Yun's forehead. Taken internally or applied to the skin, this analgesic worked wonders.
Mother Tang was somewhat afraid, not knowing what Wei Zhao meant to do, but she did not dare speak up to stop him, because she felt that Wei Zhao would not harm her daughter. If Wei Zhao did not truly like her daughter, then now that the girl was in such a state he could simply have turned his back on her — why go to all this trouble?
Liu Xinwen, by contrast, was far calmer. When Xiaofen had been taken to the hospital, Wei Zhao's miraculous acupuncture had left a deep impression on her; and afterward Tang Yun had said that Wei Zhao knew medicine. So Liu Xinwen was certain that Wei Zhao was treating Tang Yun.
Once the analgesic was applied to her forehead, Tang Yun was astonished to find that the pain was gone. How could that be? She stared at Wei Zhao in disbelief, hardly able to credit it.
Wei Zhao quickly removed the stitches from Tang Yun's forehead. The wound split open, and blood seeped out. But Wei Zhao was in no hurry; step by step, he applied the trauma ointment, and very soon the bleeding stopped.
Having done all this with practiced ease, Wei Zhao bandaged Tang Yun's forehead again and then smiled at her: "There. Your looks won't be ruined."
With that woman assassin, Yang Qiqi, last time — or with himself — Wei Zhao could not be bothered to use the analgesic, because such a small wound was nothing; the trauma ointment could simply be applied directly. But Tang Yun was different. She had no professional training, and such pain was hard to endure.
"Ah? It won't be?" Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Tang Yun was both astonished and overjoyed, and she found it a little hard to believe.
"It won't be." Wei Zhao nodded. "This is my company's first product. It's called trauma ointment, and its effects are much like Divine Physician Kang's Golden Wound Medicine."
Mother Tang had not quite believed that her daughter's looks would be spared, but hearing Wei Zhao say so, she believed it. The fame of Divine Physician Kang's Golden Wound Medicine resounded far and wide — only, it was not a product ordinary folk like them could buy. That miraculous medicine, supplied in limited quantities, could hardly be had even through connections. They said that once applied, the wound healed quickly and left no scar at all — truly wonderful beyond words.
"Heh..." The weight on Tang Yun's heart finally lifted, and in her heart she liked Wei Zhao all the more. It was so good to be his girlfriend — her face would not be ruined after all...
"If the wound starts to hurt later, just take a small sip of this analgesic." Wei Zhao handed the analgesic to Mother Tang. "Give it one night, and the bandage can basically come off."
"So fast!" Even as Mother Tang marveled, her heart began to stir again. "Xiaoyi, your Uncle Tang had both his legs crushed and broken too. Is there any way to help him recover quickly?"
"Uncle Tang was hurt as well?" Wei Zhao was startled, and then his expression turned grave. Earlier he had taken Tang Yun's injury for an accident, so although it grieved him, he had not thought much of it. But now that Mother Tang said Tang Jucheng had been hurt too, Wei Zhao grew suspicious — especially since Mother Tang said he had been struck down by something. Could there be something behind all this? "What exactly happened? How is it that both Tang Yun and Uncle Tang were hurt?"
"Well... the truth of it is this..." Mother Tang had never intended for Wei Zhao to stand up for them; after all, in her eyes those people were little better than gangsters, doing whatever they pleased, not the sort that ordinary folk could afford to provoke.
The reason she told Wei Zhao at all was that their house had collapsed, and she wanted his help in dealing with it — otherwise, where would they live?
Mother Tang recounted the whole affair for Wei Zhao. She did not dare conceal anything from him, and even admitted her own earlier greed — how she had wanted to go and demand the storefront. After all, without a cause, how could any of what followed have come about?
Hearing Mother Tang's account, Wei Zhao's face had turned dreadfully dark. Fury was already raging in his heart. That these people dared treat Tang Yun this way had crossed Wei Zhao's bottom line. At this moment he was utterly enraged. Short on soldiers, were they? Very well!
"Fatty Lai, who is this Zhao Qibing?" Wei Zhao turned to look at Fatty Lai and asked mildly. His voice was indeed calm — yet Fatty Lai saw the ferocity in Wei Zhao's eyes.
