Chapter 760 — The Sorrowful Heiress

The Blossom Guardian

But almost at once Yu Kun sensed something was wrong! This was no peak of the late Yellow Stage!

"Pfft--" Yu Kun spat a mouthful of fresh blood and was hurled backward, slamming heavily into the television wall of the living room and smashing the set to smithereens on the spot.

In that instant Wei Zhao withdrew half the force from his palm. He did not understand why Uncle Qing had told him to show mercy, but since it was Uncle Qing who had spoken, Wei Zhao would naturally obey! With Uncle Qing's level-headedness, there was surely good reason behind it.

"The Mysterious Stage..." Yu Kun stared at Wei Zhao in horror, and after several more mouthfuls of fresh blood, forced out the two words with difficulty.

Yu Kun knew Wei Zhao had shown mercy. Had it not been for Uncle Qing's final words, "Show mercy," he would almost certainly be a goner by now!

Truly vicious! Yu Kun reeled inside. Where had this Wei Zhao come from? To actually possess the strength of the early Mysterious Stage? How could that be possible? How old was he? He looked perhaps even younger than himself, and he was no scion of some great clan -- how could he command such fearsome skill?

Still, whatever the case, Yu Kun knew this was no place for him to linger. Wei Zhao had shown mercy this time, but whether he would beat him to death next time was anyone's guess!

Yu Kun hesitated, then let the Ten Thousand Year Spring wooden box and the two fragment maps drop from his arms, and bearing his injuries fled the villa at top speed, vanishing into the night.

He knew that if he did not leave the box and the fragment maps behind, Wei Zhao might well come after him -- and in that case, whether he still had his life was anybody's guess.

Wei Zhao watched Yu Kun's retreating back and did not give chase. Yu Kun was already a cripple; what point was there in pursuing him?

Ever since the affair with Li Dilei, Wei Zhao had taken a keen interest in compressing his own energy. His energy could be put to use by others, but once compressed, the burst of an instant was something others could not endure.

The palm strike Wei Zhao had landed on Yu Kun carried a charge of compressed energy. Once inside Yu Kun's body it detonated at once, like a bundle of explosives, directly destroying his meridians.

So even if Yu Kun recovered, he would be a cripple, no longer able to practice internal martial arts.

"Why not kill him?" Wei Zhao looked at Uncle Qing with some puzzlement. What Wei Zhao had not expected was that Uncle Qing was himself an external-style expert at the peak of the late Yellow Stage!

"He is a man of the Yu family." Uncle Qing sighed. "Kill a man of the Yu family, and the trouble will be great."

"Only because he is a man of the Yu family?" Wei Zhao frowned.

"You don't know the Yu family?" Uncle Qing was taken aback by Wei Zhao's indifferent expression.

"I know them," Wei Zhao said coolly. "But that has nothing to do with killing him."

"You... aren't afraid of the Yu family?" Uncle Qing was somewhat astonished. Since Wei Zhao knew of the Yu family, he had still dared let Yu Kun live?

"Afraid?" Wei Zhao seemed to be asking himself. "Never mind. If he's run, he's run."

The reason Wei Zhao had dared to strike Yu Kun dead in the villa was also that everyone present was someone he could trust utterly. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu could never betray him, and neither would Uncle Qing. That was precisely why Wei Zhao had dared to strike to kill!

Every circle has its own rules. Wei Zhao did not believe the Yu family would go to the police over a death, so even if Yu Kun died, it would not affect the life he now led!

It was just like Zhang Long and Li Yao at Li Cihua's side -- if they died, they died.

This was different from Young Master Bing, An Jianwen, and Zhong Yongliang. Young Master Bing could die, but Wei Zhao could not kill him in full view of a crowd; and if An Jianwen and Zhong Yongliang died, the police would certainly act. That, too, was why Wei Zhao dealt with different people in different ways.

Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Uncle Qing suddenly recalled his strength! The early Mysterious Stage! Was Wei Zhao truly at the early Mysterious Stage?

Then what on earth was Wei Zhao's background? And why had he appeared at the young lady's side? Where in the world had Mr. Gu recruited him from? That such an expert should accompany the young lady to school and back every day -- even tag along while she played and frolicked!

Uncle Qing grew ever more suspicious about Wei Zhao's background. Just what sort of person was he?

But Gu Pengzhan said nothing, Wei Zhao said nothing, and Uncle Qing would not press the matter. He sighed softly and walked over toward Gu Mengyao.

Gu Mengyao too had flown into a momentary rage and told Wei Zhao to kill Yu Kun; but now that Wei Zhao had actually moved to do so, she regretted it. Wei Zhao must not turn into a murderer on her account!

So although Yu Kun's escape left Gu Mengyao somewhat disappointed, she was also somewhat relieved -- if Wei Zhao had truly killed Yu Kun, how could she ever have wrapped things up?

"Miss Gu, he is a man of the Yu family, and for the time being we cannot afford to cross them..." Having had Wei Zhao release Yu Kun, Uncle Qing owed the young lady some explanation!

Uncle Qing knew Gu Mengyao's grief; he knew she wanted Yu Kun dead to avenge General Weiwu.

"Yes..." By now Gu Mengyao's emotions had steadied. She held General Weiwu and had wiped her tears dry.

"Miss, General Weiwu... knowing you are safe and sound now, would surely be very happy too..." Uncle Qing did not know how to comfort Gu Mengyao. "But a dead dog cannot come back to life..."

"Yes..." Gu Mengyao replied numbly. How could she not know that a dead dog could not return to life? General Weiwu lay motionless before her eyes -- plainly dead... It was simply that, for the moment, Gu Mengyao could not accept it.

"Heh, maybe he isn't dead yet? Shall I treat him for you?" Wei Zhao walked over smiling, glanced at General Weiwu in the young lady's arms, and asked with a shrug.

"Not dead?" At Wei Zhao's words Gu Mengyao's eyes lit up at once. She stared at him in disbelief, a little agitated. "Wei Zhao, you're saying he's not dead? You're not lying to me?"

"Have I ever lied to you?" Wei Zhao lifted General Weiwu from the young lady's arms -- but in doing so he accidentally brushed against her breast...

Soft. Not large, perhaps, but wonderfully resilient. It had felt rather nice, actually. Wei Zhao savored the sensation of that instant.

Gu Mengyao's cheeks flushed scarlet at once. In summer one wears little enough as it is, and Gu Mengyao did not wear the sort of *** stuffed with thick layers of sponge -- only a thin camisole. So how could she not have felt Wei Zhao's touch?

"Humph!" Gu Mengyao shot Wei Zhao a glare. "Then cure him quickly, or... or I'll settle the score with you!"

"Cure him, and you won't settle the score?" Wei Zhao teased.

"Oh, if you cure him, Sister Yaoyao will let you touch her one more time?" Shen Yushu, who had seen Wei Zhao paw at Gu Mengyao's breast from the side, chimed in.

"Xiao Shu!" Gu Mengyao was angry. "What nonsense are you talking? Why don't you let him touch you instead?"

"Oh, if you tell me to, then I'll let him." Shen Yushu thought it over and replied.

"Go play by yourself, I've no time for you." Gu Mengyao pushed Shen Yushu aside, then turned her head back to Wei Zhao, who was at that moment examining General Weiwu's condition. She asked anxiously, "How is it, Wei Zhao?"
