Chapter 903 — Come Home and Take Shelter

The Blossom Guardian

Gu Mengyao woke and hurriedly rose to take over the watch from Tang Yun and Shen Yushu. In truth she had not slept long — only an hour or two — for how could she sleep soundly with Wei Zhao's safety weighing on her mind?

She stumbled downstairs, yet saw neither Shen Yushu nor Tang Yun on the sofa, and her heart lurched. Then she caught the faint sound of voices from Wei Zhao's room. Could it be...

Her drowsiness vanished in an instant. She ran to Wei Zhao's room and saw him lying in bed, smiling, chatting with Tang Yun and Xiaoshu. Her heart settled at once; she was overjoyed — Wei Zhao had finally woken up!

"Yaoyao, you go and sleep too. Look at you, hair all over the place — anyone can tell you haven't slept well." It was the first time Wei Zhao had seen the young mistress so unkempt, her hair in careless disarray, with not a shred of poise left to her.

His words brought a flush to Gu Mengyao's cheeks. Only then did she remember that she had just risen, so of course her hair was a mess, whereas Shen Yushu and Tang Yun had been up a long while and had already combed their hair and washed their faces. She alone had come running here in such a state...

"Ah... I..." A shyness showed on her face, at odds with her usual cold young-mistress manner, but it flickered away in an instant and she recovered her customary calm. Tang Yun was here; she had to keep her feelings in check. "It's good that you're awake. Do you need to rest a while longer?"

"Yes, I'll rest a bit more. You all go and rest too," Wei Zhao said.

The three girls each had something on her mind. Gu Mengyao wanted to say a few words of thanks; Shen Yushu wanted to ask her Brother Arrowhead what that ultimate move of his was, the one so outrageously awesome; and Tang Yun wanted to ask whether there was anything Wei Zhao needed her to do — she wanted to stay by his side and look after him.

Yet at that moment none of them could find the words, and so they withdrew from the room together...

"Phew..." Wei Zhao let out a breath. It was not that he did not want to see the three girls, nor that he truly wanted rest. On one hand he wanted them to go and sleep, but above all, he had not yet decided what to say to them.

About the present, about the future — Wei Zhao did not know where to turn. Having lost his strength, he could be found by his enemies at any moment, could die at any moment, and might even bring trouble and danger down upon the young mistress...

Without his strength he could hardly take a single step. Thank goodness his enemies did not yet know his condition; otherwise they would likely already be beating down his door. At that thought, Wei Zhao could not help a bitter smile.

He wanted to take out his phone and call the old man at home, to ask whether there was any remedy. But when his hand reached his pocket, he was startled to realize that the phone had been destroyed by his own energy bomb.

Tang Yun, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu really were exhausted. Each of them had Wei Zhao on her mind, and over these three days and nights they had scarcely slept. So the moment they stepped out of his room and their hearts eased, drowsiness swept over them at once.

Earlier, Tang Yun had also rested in the upstairs bedroom belonging to Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu. The young mistress did not mind; she had let Tang Yun sleep right in her and Shen Yushu's bed.

The young mistress did not know why she had suddenly grown less averse to Tang Yun. If she accepted Wei Zhao, did she have to accept his women as well? In any case, Gu Mengyao's resistance to Tang Yun was no longer so strong — though whether that was a good thing or a bad thing, she could not say.

But before, it had been Tang Yun alone sleeping in the upstairs bedroom. Now that all three needed to sleep, how could they possibly share one bed?

Tang Yun sensed the awkwardness of the three of them sleeping together, and so spoke up first: "How about I sleep on the sofa downstairs?"

At that, Gu Mengyao felt a little embarrassed: "You're a guest — how could you sleep on the sofa? If anyone sleeps there... it should be Xiaoshu!"

"Huh? Why me?" Shen Yushu asked foolishly.

"Heh..." Tang Yun knew Gu Mengyao was only being polite; how could she let Shen Yushu sleep on the sofa? So she smiled and said, "Do you have a guest room? I could sleep there."

"We do — it's upstairs, next to the master bedroom. I'll go and tidy it up for you." Only then did Gu Mengyao remember the house had a guest room, and she said so hurriedly.

Shen Yushu had meant to slander it as Brother Arrowhead's room upstairs, but Gu Mengyao was quicker of tongue and said first that it was a guest room, and that she would tidy it — clearly no one had stayed there in a long while. Shen Yushu could not help feeling deflated; her plan to fool Tang Yun had failed after all.

Wei Zhao waited until the three girls had gone upstairs, then waited a while longer before coming out of his room into the living room. The Mighty General glanced at him with some curiosity; it seemed to have sensed the change in Wei Zhao's strength as well. But it could not speak human speech, and after two woofs, to which Wei Zhao paid no heed, it could only lie back down on the floor.

Wei Zhao used the landline in the villa to call the old man at home.

"Xiaoyi?" Old Man Wei had been in the outhouse when the phone rang, and nearly dropped it into the cesspit. "What do you want? Can't you call later?"

"You're not in the toilet again, are you?" From the old man's tone, Wei Zhao guessed what he was up to.

"..." Old Man Wei snorted. "Is something the matter?"

"Old man, I've lost my rank... I'm an ordinary person now..." Wei Zhao wasted no words and came straight out with the trouble he was in.

"An ordinary person? What happened?" Old Man Wei was startled, and forgot all about scolding Wei Zhao for calling at such an hour. He asked at once.

"All my meridians are damaged. There's no way to cultivate true qi..." Wei Zhao smiled bitterly and recounted the whole sequence of events to Old Man Wei, exactly as they had happened.

"So you're saying you blew up your own meridians?" After hearing Wei Zhao out, Old Man Wei's voice had changed its tone.

"Yes..." Wei Zhao said, a little helplessly. "Old man, you're a divine physician — is there anything you can do?"

"No!" Old Man Wei said flatly. "What were you thinking? That was careless of you. Forget it... from what you've told me, it's not your fault. Hurry up, pack your things and come home to take shelter. Then devote yourself to training external martial arts. I don't think you can stay in Songshan City any longer — staying there is just waiting to die..."

"..." Wei Zhao was speechless at the old man's words. "Old man, that sounds a bit too defeatist, doesn't it? Aren't you a divine physician? You really have no way?"
