Chapter 1066 — A Conspiracy Against Feng Xiaoxiao "Don't Move!" The Feng Xiaoxiao in His Arms Provoked a Physiological Response in Wei Zhao, Who Immediately Knit His Brows in a Wry Smile
"Oh?" Feng Xiaoxiao froze, and then she too felt what seemed to be a hard object pressing against her backside... In that instant she understood why Wei Zhao had told her not to move!
Feng Xiaoxiao's cheeks flushed scarlet, though inwardly she was overjoyed. True, she and Wei Zhao had become boyfriend and girlfriend, but there had been a certain amount of pressure on him in it! Had Tang Yun not been generous enough to honor that wager, Feng Xiaoxiao could never have enjoyed such a relationship with Wei Zhao by now!
So she had always worried that Wei Zhao did not much care for her; but as matters stood, that worry was needless, for Wei Zhao was still very much interested in her.
"How about... we try it right here in the car?" Feng Xiaoxiao suddenly came out with something breathtakingly bold.
"What nonsense are you talking? Do you have a death wish?" At Feng Xiaoxiao's words Wei Zhao was equal parts amused and exasperated! The ideas this Feng Xiaoxiao came up with were earth-shattering indeed!
However formidable Wei Zhao might be, he would not dare do such a thing! Was that not plainly courting death?
"Hee hee... I saw someone do it once, during a race..." Feng Xiaoxiao admitted, a shade sheepishly.
"And then?" Wei Zhao asked.
"And then they all crashed and got themselves killed!" Feng Xiaoxiao said, somewhat embarrassed.
"They died, and you still want to try it?" Wei Zhao shot her a glare that held no patience whatever.
"I figured you're rather amazing -- aren't you a Mystic-rank expert... they say you have true qi guarding your body..." Feng Xiaoxiao stuck out her tongue and said.
"Who has any thought to spare for true qi at a time like that?" Wei Zhao shook his head. "Drive properly. If you're going to race, then enjoy the speed and passion racing brings; put everything else out of your mind."
"All right." On reflection Feng Xiaoxiao saw the sense of it -- that sort of thing was better done back home; here she should simply savor the pleasures of racing. Had she not dreamed of this all along?
After Feng Xiaoxiao's little commotion, the fire in Wei Zhao's belly had indeed died down. He started the car, his left hand closing over hers on the steering wheel, his right arm drawing her body in close, and said to her: "In a moment, whichever way I tell you to turn the wheel, you turn it that way. Follow my command!"
"Got it!" Feng Xiaoxiao nodded.
"Five, four, three, two, one..." The race countdown came over the speakers, and at the very instant the number "one" was called out, the marshal beside them waved the small flag in his hand!
The Audi and the Land Rover shot off like unsheathed blades at almost the very same instant -- only that on the straight before the mountain road, the Audi was plainly still some way behind the Land Rover, and after a few hundred meters a gap slowly opened between the two cars!
The Land Rover was fast; in the blink of an eye it had pulled far ahead of the Audi.
"What's the use of having a better car!" Feng Xiaoxiao gnashed her teeth in fury, gripping the steering wheel, yet utterly powerless -- there was no help for it, their car was simply not as good!
"Heh..." Wei Zhao's right arm, which encircled Feng Xiaoxiao, gave her a pat, telling her to keep her composure; but Feng Xiaoxiao, carried away with excitement, shifted, and Wei Zhao's hand came down by accident on her breast... Instantly he felt awkward -- this... had genuinely not been deliberate!
Yet Feng Xiaoxiao did not seem to mind in the least, crying out without letup: "Drive, drive! Faster, faster!"
Wei Zhao smiled faintly and said, without a care: "No need to rush. His car is a big one; once we get onto the winding mountain road, his disadvantage will show!"
On the mountain road the going was rough, and the Land Rover did have the edge there -- on such a surface an off-road vehicle beats a sports car by more than a little. But at the same time, rough as the surface was, it was nothing but hairpin turns, and here the small car's advantage came into its own all over again!
The Land Rover might have a big engine, but on this kind of road, not riding the brakes was simply courting death!
So Wei Zhao was not at all worried about the Land Rover's present lead.
The Land Rover was ahead, but it was far from relaxed; the bald man in sunglasses drove with one eye on the Audi behind him in the rearview mirror.
He did not want to open too great a distance on Wei Zhao and the others, so he was not pushing the car to its limit; otherwise, on the two-kilometer stretch from here up to the winding mountain road, he could easily have sent the speedometer to three hundred.
Ring-ring -- a mobile phone went off, and the bald man in sunglasses answered it.
"Hello?" The bald man in sunglasses took the call while driving, his expression perfectly composed; it could be seen that a race of this sort was apparently beneath his notice.
"Third brother, why is there a man sitting in Little Miss Feng's car? What's he doing there?" A man's voice came down the line.
"Second brother, that man looks to be a bodyguard Feng Tianlong hired for Little Miss Feng." The bald man in sunglasses considered for a moment. "He seems to have some skill with his hands and feet; though of course we cannot rule out that he's a boyfriend she found for herself -- they look rather close."
"I see. Then we'll take them both out. Third brother, are you confident?" The man called Second Brother reflected for a moment, then said.
"Don't forget where I come from -- I'm a retired Formula One driver!" The bald man in sunglasses said coolly. "I was planning to take them both out regardless. If he wants someone to blame, he can blame himself for getting mixed up with Feng Tianlong's daughter!"
"I trust your driving! I've already got a helicopter ready; it's standing by at the summit. The moment you succeed, I'll have the helicopter come and fly you out!" Second Brother said.
"All right, we're coming up on the turns. That's enough talk -- I need to find an opening and finish them off!" the bald man in sunglasses said. "For the moment, though, I have to wait for these two short-lived fools! If I'd known they'd be racing in some small-displacement sports car, I'd have switched to another car!"
The bald man in sunglasses had read Feng Xiaoxiao's file and knew that she normally drove an Audi, but he had assumed that for a race she would drive something a little better. He had guessed wrong, however: the car Feng Xiaoxiao took into the race was still her own Audi!
Just as Wei Zhao had said, once the Land Rover reached the winding mountain road, it visibly slowed down! On a road like this, to accelerate further was tantamount to suicide -- though of course, experts excepted!
Wei Zhao, naturally, was such an expert; but Wei Zhao suspected that the bald man in sunglasses was one as well!
If he were no expert, that perfect drift before the start would have been beyond any ordinary man! Both distance and speed had been judged to the inch -- a fraction more and he would have crashed into Feng Xiaoxiao's car; a fraction less and the nose of the car would never have swung around so straight!
It could be said that before the drift, the Land Rover's driver had calculated the angle and the position exactly in order to achieve such a result.
