Chapter 1069 — A Heavy Promise — Yet at the Very Instant the Land Rover Was About to Ram the Audi TT, Wei Zhao Released the Brake Again and the Audi TT Slid Forward Once More! And Thus He Planted an Illusion in the Land Rover Driver's Mind!

The Blossom Guardian

Because the Audi TT's taillights had been completely smashed by the Land Rover, the bald man in sunglasses assumed Wei Zhao's car had never moved at all. In truth, Wei Zhao's car was slowly sliding forward — sliding down toward the ravine below! Only the motion was so slow that at the speed the bald man in sunglasses was driving, he never noticed it.

All of this happened in the space of a spark's flash, and Wei Zhao had done nothing more than exploit a difference in perception.

So by the time the Land Rover struck the Audi TT, the Audi TT was already almost over the edge of the ravine.

Wei Zhao stamped on the accelerator; the Audi TT shot forward and plunged down into the ravine. The Land Rover behind him, plainly unaware of the danger, kept its foot on the gas, still trying to shove Wei Zhao's car over the brink.

The result: the Audi TT flew off, and by the time the bald man in sunglasses realized something was wrong, his two front wheels were already off the mountain road. It was too late to react — and so his car flew off the winding road as well.

"Ah—!" Feng Xiaoxiao screamed as the Audi TT tumbled down into the ravine.

After several rolls, though every airbag had deployed, had Wei Zhao not shielded Feng Xiaoxiao with his true qi, the two of them would surely have died. Under such violent tumbling the car had been utterly deformed; no safety measure could do much good now. And the car had caught fire — if they did not jump out soon, the danger would only grow.

Wei Zhao paid no heed to Feng Xiaoxiao's screaming. He burst the airbag, kicked the door open with all his strength, gathered Feng Xiaoxiao in his arms, and leapt out into the air.

"Whoosh—" Wei Zhao patted Feng Xiaoxiao on the back, let out a breath of relief, and said with a smile, "There. It's all right now, Xiaoxiao."

"Ah!" Feng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes. A moment before, she had thought she was going to die, so she was still a little muddled. "Hubby Wei Zhao, are we dead already?"

"Not dead," Wei Zhao said with a smile. "I won't let you die."

"Really?" Feng Xiaoxiao was startled, then thought of the matter of her body, and her face fell again.

Wei Zhao seemed to sense that shadow in her, and sighed softly. He nodded. "Really."

It was a heavy promise. Wei Zhao was perhaps guilty of boasting, and yet he truly did not want Feng Xiaoxiao to die. Unawares, he had truly fallen in love with this somewhat elfin, odd little girl. If he could, Wei Zhao would have wished to spend his whole life with her — but that was only a beautiful illusion...

"Pinky swear!" Feng Xiaoxiao held out her hand, as though she wanted to prove something.

At this somewhat stubborn gesture of hers, Wei Zhao's heart grew heavier still. It seemed Feng Xiaoxiao was deceiving herself a little, trying by this sort of psychological suggestion to resist the unfairness of fate.

"All right." Wei Zhao extended his little finger and hooked it with hers, and Feng Xiaoxiao looked rather pleased.

It was a long while before she came back to herself, and cried out in astonishment: "We're not dead... then that was just too thrilling! Hubby Wei Zhao, you're amazing — that feeling just now, it was like bungee jumping, like being at the very instant of life and death all at once..."

"Your car..." Wei Zhao pointed into the distance, at the Audi TT, already ablaze and exploding...

"Right — where did that Land Rover guy go? How rotten! He actually dared smash my beloved car like that? This girl's going to gouge out his eyeballs and pop them under her feet, hubby Wei Zhao, you help me!" The sight of her beloved car turned into a ball of flame sent Feng Xiaoxiao's anger surging up from nowhere.

She had saved up pocket money for years to buy that car — and now it was scrapped, just like that?

Looking at the Land Rover that had fallen in the distance, Wei Zhao sighed softly and reflected that the bald man in sunglasses had been lucky: the Land Rover had also flown off the winding road, but because the Audi TT had blocked it once, it had ended up landing on the winding road below instead of plunging into the ravine.

"Over there. I'll take you to find him and make him pay for the car." Wei Zhao pointed at a deformed Land Rover on the winding road.

The bald man in sunglasses had earlier been too busy saving his own skin to see Wei Zhao leap from the car with Feng Xiaoxiao. Once he came to a steady stop on the next level of the winding road, he could not help but laugh out loud.

"Hahaha, heaven truly does not mean for me to die! That little bastard's a sly one after all — playing at clever schemes, trying to take me down with him? Not so easy!" The bald man in sunglasses got out of the car and looked down at the Audi TT, already exploded, at the bottom of the ravine, and his mood was magnificent.

He took out his phone and quickly sent a video to a certain number. It was the footage he had recorded earlier of the moment the Audi TT was shoved off the winding road, along with the video he had just recorded of the Audi TT exploding and burning.

Not long after the message went out, a shrill ringtone sounded.

Sure enough, the recipient of the video had called back without a moment's delay.

"Hello?" The bald man in sunglasses answered with a cold smile. "Long Feng? I imagine you've received the video I sent you?"

"Who are you? How is Xiaoxiao?" Feng Tianlong demanded urgently. Long Feng was the code name under which Feng Tianlong carried out missions in the organization — it seemed the other man knew him well enough.

Even as he spoke, he waved at his subordinate, signaling him to trace the precise location of the call. With AGPS now so widely used, the link between a phone number and the base stations could pinpoint a caller's position exactly.

The moment Feng Tianlong received the video, he had called Feng Xiaoxiao, only to hear that the phone was switched off. He tried Wei Zhao's number — also switched off.

To make sure they would not be disturbed during the race, the two of them had turned their phones off for the time being; it had never occurred to them that Feng Tianlong would call at such a moment.

Seeing on the video his daughter's car shoved off the winding road, exploding and burning into a wreck, Feng Tianlong's heart clenched. His daughter might have only a short time left to live, but to give her even one more day, Feng Tianlong would spare no cost.

Feng Tianlong's first thought was that this had been done by one of his own enemies. After all, for someone to be able to send this video to Feng Tianlong's phone, the sender's identity could not be simple.

"Who am I? Feng Tianlong, don't you know? Hahahaha — my elder brother died at your hands. This time, I'll let you taste what it is to lose a loved one, heh heh!" The bald man in sunglasses laughed cruelly. "How about it? The video's nice and clear, isn't it? One bang, and your daughter's finished! Feels wonderful. If you come now, you might still find some ashes — in a little while even the ashes will be burned away!"

"You're one of the Red Conch people?" Feng Tianlong hesitated only a moment before guessing the man's identity.
