Chapter 1444 — You Go and Compete
Wei Zhaodian nodded, visibly relieved. "Chen Xi, I'll leave Ziyu's studies in your hands. I'm off now."
"Mm, don't worry. Goodbye, Brother Weizhao!" Chen Xi waved at Wei Zhaodian, her earlier excitement lending a faint flush to her cheeks.
"Goodbye!" Ying Ziyu was nowhere near as pleased as Chen Xi.
Wei Zhaodian did not take offense. He merely smiled and quickly left Ying Ziyu's classroom. Class was about to begin, and it would hardly be appropriate for him to linger there.
Once Wei Zhaodian had gone, Ying Ziyu rose and glanced outside. Only after confirming that he had left did she turn to Chen Xi with a mischievous grin and wink. "Xiaoxi, tell me—do you like that Wei Zhaodian fellow?"
"Huh?" Chen Xi jumped, her eyes widening. "Y-you mean what...?"
"I mean, do you like that tyrant Wei Zhaodian?" Ying Ziyu had spent years fending for herself in society, so she was naturally somewhat precocious. She had seen plenty of the affairs between men and women, even if she herself had never tried any of it. Seeing Chen Xi's flushed face, she began drawing her own conclusions.
"I... I don't like him..." Chen Xi's denial rang less than true. Did she like him? Or did she not? What did it even mean to like someone, and what did it mean not to? Chen Xi had never given much thought to romantic feelings. She simply felt that Wei Zhaodian was a very good person. He had treated her mother and helped her so many times that a kind of admiration had taken root in her heart. She had some affection for him, certainly, but she had never considered whether that could be called liking him.
"Look at you—your face is red, you're stammering, and you're calling him 'Brother Weizhao' like you're so close!" Ying Ziyu said with a grin.
"I..." Chen Xi's mind descended into confusion, and for a moment she had no idea how to explain herself. Her words came out in a jumble. "I... he's older than us, after all!"
"Who would have thought, Xiaoxi? You've actually fallen in love! Want Big Sister Ziyu to give you some advice? I may not be as good as you at studying, but when it comes to this, I have experience!" Ying Ziyu had finally found a field in which she could claim to surpass Chen Xi, and she happily thumped her chest as she spoke.
"What? Big Sister Ziyu, have you actually been in a relationship?" Chen Xi asked, startled.
"I... just because I haven't eaten pork, does that mean I've never seen a pig run?" Ying Ziyu stammered. "I've seen a lot more of the world than you have!"
"Oh... But Brother Weizhao already has a girlfriend, doesn't he? And she's very pretty..." Before she knew it, Chen Xi had been led along by Ying Ziyu. In truth, she was not even sure whether she liked Wei Zhaodian, yet she found herself following Ying Ziyu's line of thought in a daze.
"So what if he has a girlfriend? You can steal him away. Go and compete!" The moment Ying Ziyu thought of the girl beside Wei Zhaodian, she felt irritated. That girl had egged Wei Zhaodian into spanking her last time, and Ying Ziyu had not forgotten the grudge! What a vile little wretch. Why hadn't she told Wei Zhaodian to spank her instead?
"No... I can't compete with Sister Xiaoxiao. She's always been so good to me..." Chen Xi shook her head. "How could I do something like that?"
"Good to you? Feng Xiaoxiao is rotten to the core, with nothing but bad ideas in her head. She even wanted that tyrant Wei Zhaodian to spank me!" Ying Ziyu said. "Don't worry. With my support, I'll make sure you win over your Brother Weizhao!"
"What? I... what am I saying?" Chen Xi finally came to her senses. Remembering what she had just said, her face flushed crimson. "Big Sister Ziyu, I... I was only talking nonsense. I didn't mean that... Don't misunderstand..."
"Hee-hee, you let the truth slip without realizing it. I understand!" Ying Ziyu replied.
"...Class has started. I need to listen." With her face burning, Chen Xi stopped paying Ying Ziyu any attention.
After leaving Fushan Middle School, Wei Zhaodian told Uncle Qing about Ying Ziyu and Chen Xi. Uncle Qing agreed without the slightest objection. To him, it was a simple favor, and Wei Zhaodian was also a shareholder of the Gu Group.
Thinking over everything he had needed to settle before leaving, Wei Zhaodian finally breathed a sigh of relief. In truth, what worried him most about this departure was the safety of the eldest young miss, Xiaoshu, and Tang Yun. He had even considered forcibly raising them all to the Earth Class, but for the moment he had no suitable internal cultivation method for them to practice.
The Xuanyuan Dragon-Control Formula was not suitable for women, and Wei Zhaodian had no other internal cultivation methods in hand. The difference between humans and spirit beasts was that spirit beasts could increase their strength without an internal cultivation method, whereas humans could not. Thus, Wei Zhaodian planned to search at leisure for a method suitable for the eldest young miss and the others. Once he found one, he would no longer have to worry so much.
On the drive back to the villa, Wei Zhaodian thought of Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yutian. He wondered how they were doing, and whether the tomb-raiding affair had been resolved. After a moment's thought, he decided to call Qiu Lingshan before he left and let her know. After all, the two of them had become good friends, and he had no idea how long it would be before he returned. When she solved cases in the future, he might not be able to help her either.
With that in mind, Wei Zhaodian dialed Qiu Lingshan's number.
Qiu Lingshan had actually been debating whether to call Wei Zhaodian herself. She knew he was a doctor, and although Chen Yutian was currently receiving the best treatment at the hospital, she felt Wei Zhaodian was probably more capable. Besides, while they had been in the ancient tomb, Elder Yu had seemed to mention that the Mighty General beside Wei Zhaodian was a healing-type spirit beast.
Qiu Lingshan had no idea whether Elder Yu had simply been talking nonsense. She knew where that dog had come from: it had merely been an ordinary dog whose strength Wei Zhaodian had forcibly raised. It was no different from her or Chen Yutian in that regard. How could it possibly be a spirit beast?
For that reason, Qiu Lingshan was not entirely convinced that the spirit beast could heal injuries.
But whether she believed it or not, Qiu Lingshan felt she ought to tell Wei Zhaodian. In her eyes, Wei Zhaodian was practically omnipotent. Whenever something happened, all she had to do was find him; no matter how difficult the problem, he could resolve it with ease.
Chen Yutian, however, had forbidden her from telling Wei Zhaodian, leaving Qiu Lingshan in a difficult position. On the one hand, she did not want to break her promise. On the other, she genuinely felt that Wei Zhaodian might be the only person capable of solving the problem.
As Qiu Lingshan wavered indecisively, her phone rang.
Assuming it was a colleague calling, Qiu Lingshan gathered her thoughts and answered. "Hello?"
"It's Wei Zhaodian," he said. "Everything all right on your end? I'm planning to leave in a few days."
