Chapter 1528 — So Boring

Dr. Yin now revered An Jianwen so deeply he was all but prostrate before him. In the Fire Wolf Gang, whoever brought in the money led the pack, and so Dr. Yin now obeyed An Jianwen's every command; all the more so since, of late, An Jianwen had used the underground fight ring to supply him with no small number of live test subjects, sending his research racing forward by leaps and bounds!

"Still too weak, and the duration too short!" An Jianwen shook his head. "To rob those clans, a man would need at least Earth rank, or the peak of late-stage Mystic rank, and the time you give them is far too brief. Most likely they would be cut down before they ever made it out the door!"

"If we time it carefully, and have the hypnotist plant the proper program in the subject so that they bite open the capsule of medicine in their mouth only when someone attacks them, then it could just barely serve..." Dr. Yin said.

"No. If we do this, we do it without a single flaw! Dr. Yin, keep perfecting that medicine. You must improve both the strength and the duration, or I cannot send them to rob the clans. Ordinary clans may not be as thick with experts as the hidden clans, but some of them do keep men at the peak of late-stage Mystic rank, so we cannot be anything but cautious!" An Jianwen said. "Still, there is no need to rush. Even if we do no business at all for a year, the Fire Wolf Gang will have nothing to say about it."

"That goes without saying. The money Master Wen has pulled in for the gang these past weeks is already no small sum. Who would dare breathe a word?" Dr. Yin nodded in agreement.

"Yao-yao, let's go shopping? It's been ages since we went shopping." Shen Yushu found the weekend utterly tedious, bored to the very marrow, and she truly could not recall how she had once passed her weekends. Could it be that Chewing Gum Bro had been there to keep her company? But no, that made no sense. Before Chewing Gum Bro came, what had she and Yao-yao done with themselves?

She turned it over and over in her mind, and all she could dredge up was shopping; nothing else came to her. So she made up her mind to drag Gu Mengyao out with her.

"Have your Yun-yun go with you. It's too hot; I don't want to go out..." Gu Mengyao was a little heat-struck today, and her voice had no strength in it. "Before you go, bring me a bottle of iced drink from the fridge downstairs. My head is swimming so badly I cannot even read."

"Sis Tang Yun, come shopping with me?" Seeing that Gu Mengyao really did seem unwell, Shen Yushu turned her offensive to Tang Yun.

"Xiao Shu, go study. Be a good girl!" Tang Yun wagged the workbook in her hand. "I have been too busy with all that love-talk with your Chewing Gum Bro, and some of my coursework has slipped. I have to work hard, or how will I ever get into university?"

"Ugh, how boring. None of you will come..." Shen Yushu swayed and tottered down the stairs to fetch the iced drink for Gu Mengyao.

Wu Chengtian was sitting in the living room doorway, cultivating, while General Weiwu was out in the yard playing with Lion. Shen Yushu glanced at them, bored, and thought Wu Chengtian was nowhere near the fun of Wei Zhao, not amusing in the slightest. She could not be bothered to speak to him either, so she took the drink and went back upstairs.

"Here you are, Yao-yao!" Shen Yushu handed the drink to Gu Mengyao. "No Chewing Gum Bro saliva in it this time!"

"As if it could ever be there!" Gu Mengyao took the drink with a huff, opened it and swallowed two mouthfuls.

"Oh! Yao-yao, you finally admitted it. You want it!" Shen Yushu was working hard to make her own amusement.

"Who said I want it? Tang Yun is right here, don't talk nonsense." Gu Mengyao's face went instantly red to the ears, and she scolded Shen Yushu. "Are you heat-struck too? What is all this raving?"

"I'm fine, don't mind me." Tang Yun waved a hand and pleaded innocence. In truth, she had already seen through certain things. She did not wish to stop them, and had no way to stop them. Like Feng Xiaoxiao, everything was best left to take its natural course.

To forbid Wei Zhao from having any contact with Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu was impossible, and for affection to grow with time was inevitable. Though Tang Yun did not know what Gu Mengyao truly thought, whether she had ever considered going further with Wei Zhao, she did know that Shen Yushu more or less harbored such thoughts.

And given Shen Yushu's nature, Tang Yun knew that any attempt to stop her would fail; it would only backfire. Besides, with the way things stood between them, Tang Yun truly had no place to interfere. Shen Yushu was not a bad sort, and was easy company.

"See, Sis Tang Yun has given in, and you still will not admit it?" Shen Yushu shot Gu Mengyao a look.

At Tang Yun's words, Gu Mengyao's heart gave a sudden, inexplicable leap, though her face stayed indifferent. "I don't know what you're talking about. I am heat-struck and need to rest a while. Go play by yourself. I'm not speaking to you!"

"Ugh, if only Chewing Gum Bro were here. He could cure your heatstroke in a single pass! And that Wu Chengtian downstairs, a Mystic rank expert just the same, can't do a thing!" Shen Yushu grumbled.

"Enough. Just say you miss Chewing Gum Bro yourself and stop pushing it onto us!" Gu Mengyao said.

"Fine, I never said I didn't miss him. I do miss him!" Shen Yushu nodded as though it were the most natural thing in the world.

Tang Yun and Gu Mengyao could not help laughing at the sight of her.

"I wonder whether things are going smoothly on Wei Zhao's end?" After the laughter had passed, Tang Yun spoke with a trace of worry. "It has been six days with no word. Wei Zhao has not called back either. Honestly, I am starting to worry."

"Maybe there is no phone signal in that far northern land. Don't worry. Wei Zhao is formidable; there shouldn't be any trouble..." Gu Mengyao consoled her. In truth, she was worried herself; only, had Tang Yun not raised it today, all of them would have gone on carefully avoiding the subject.
