Chapter 1823 — Worrying Over Gains and Losses: Yes, It Was Her Own Blood!
Following the Grand Elder's instruction, she ought to have dripped Wei Zhao's blood into the bottle of Herb of Forgetfulness potion and then drunk it herself, and so forgotten Wei Zhao... but Tang Yun did the very opposite, and this was the final decision she had reached after a whole night of hesitation.
Let her bear all the pain herself. Let Wei Zhao happily forget her, forget everything that had come before. Even if she herself turned heartless afterward, Wei Zhao would suffer no pain and no discomfort, because by then he would no longer know who Tang Yun was.
"Yunyun... you... you truly will not regret this..." Seeing what Tang Yun was doing, Gu Mengyao felt her heart wrung with pain. This was tearing two lovers apart by force...
Had it been the old Gu Mengyao, she might have been glad; but at this moment she felt not the least bit of gladness. She would sooner it were she herself who stayed here...
"Since I have decided, I will not regret it!" Tang Yun picked up the mixture of her own blood and the Herb of Forgetfulness potion, walked up to Wei Zhao, slowly raised her hand, propped him up, and poured the liquid little by little into his mouth...
Excitement and tension made Tang Yun's body tremble; tears blurred her eyes, and an old song rose in her ears.
"Do not speak lightly of parting; since we part, sigh no more. The sweetness that once was belongs to me alone, and a cooled heart is still beautiful. Treading the snow in search of plum blossoms, bidding farewell to that winter, find a new self to take the place of the old."
"Do not speak lightly of parting; since we part, fear no solitude. Yesterday's wind and rain have passed; tomorrow's dreams are all the more to be treasured. A new smile glimmers with new thoughts, find a dawn and step out of yourself..."
When the last drop of the potion had flowed into Wei Zhao's mouth, Tang Yun's hand shook slightly, and the little bottle fell to the ground and shattered, and at that moment Tang Yun's heart shattered too... She lowered her head, her mind in utter confusion.
Yet when she raised her head again, her face was wreathed in smiles. Looking at Gu Mengyao and Little Shu, she said, "There, Wei Zhao... I leave him to you two from now on! From now on, you are his wife and his concubine!"
"..." Gu Mengyao forced a smile. Tang Yun's joke was not funny in the least; even Little Shu, who had always wanted to be the concubine, did not laugh.
"All right, it is time to let Elder Zhang heal Wei Zhao!" With that, Tang Yun bowed deeply to Gu Mengyao and Little Shu. "Wei Zhao, I entrust him to you. Please tell those around him not to mention me in his presence..."
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu nodded silently. Though Tang Yun's request distressed them as well, if they did not do as Tang Yun asked, all her painstaking care would be wasted. Tang Yun feared that Wei Zhao would see her once she had turned heartless, and so she had given him the Herb of Forgetfulness potion first, to spare them both still greater grief hereafter...
"Elder Zhang..." Having said this, Tang Yun turned and pushed open the door, and saw Elder Zhang standing far off at the corner of the wall; perhaps to avoid any appearance of impropriety, he had not come close.
In truth, with the ears of a Heaven-rank expert like Elder Zhang, if he had wanted to eavesdrop on the sounds in the room, he could have heard them no matter how far away he stood; but Elder Zhang had no wish to listen at keyholes. In his eyes, Tang Yun and the others were of his granddaughter's generation, and Tang Yun was now taking her final leave of Wei Zhao, which would surely involve words of love and the like. However thick-skinned Elder Zhang might be, it was impossible for him to eavesdrop on such things.
"Miss Tang, have you taken the Herb of Forgetfulness potion?" Elder Zhang asked.
"Mm..." Tang Yun nodded. "You may go and heal Wei Zhao now!"
"Good, that is as it should be!" Elder Zhang nodded. "The Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit is ready, picked just now. With this thing, the fresher it is, the more marked its effect!"
"Thank you for your trouble, Elder Zhang!" Tang Yun said gratefully.
Elder Zhang said nothing more, but strode quickly into the room. Just then, the one who had gone to pick the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit returned as well, handed a small box to Elder Zhang, and turned to take his leave, not daring to linger a moment longer.
Elder Zhang swiftly opened the little box and took from it a fruit shaped like a ginseng root, crystalline throughout, pure white and flawless, giving off wave upon wave of cold air. The fruit's substance was like transparent jelly, yet not so soft, and everyone present felt a breath of incomparable freshness that lifted their spirits at once.
"What a fresh aura..." Ever since that strange ordeal, Tang Yun had possessed a far keener intuition for and control over cold air than ordinary people.
"The Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit grows beneath the ice layers of the bitterly cold Snow Valley. For those who practice the utmost yang mental cultivation methods and fire-attribute methods, it is an indispensable sovereign remedy for curing deviation in cultivation." Elder Zhang explained as he spoke, yet his hands never paused for an instant. As though by magic, he swiftly divided the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit. There was no knife in his hand; it was plain that he was cutting it with true qi, and to be capable of such a feat left Tang Yun and the others deeply astonished.
Once the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit was cut, Elder Zhang at once put it into Wei Zhao's mouth. The movement was flowing and natural, without the slightest hesitation. After feeding Wei Zhao the fruit, Elder Zhang sent a current of cold air into his body as well, and only when all this was done did he say, "There, that will do! He is out of danger now!"
"Thank you, Elder Zhang!" Hearing his words, Tang Yun finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu breathed a sigh of relief as well. Though the Grand Elder had the day before channeled cold air into Wei Zhao's body to check his fire poison, Wei Zhao's complexion had remained very poor; but today, after taking the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit, his color slowly returned to normal...
Yet though Wei Zhao's complexion had returned to normal, he did not wake, which puzzled Tang Yun and the others greatly.
Elder Zhang, however, was the first to clear up their doubts. "I have here a prescription. Prepare the medicine according to the ingredients and methods written upon it and give it to him, and within a month at the most he will wake!"
"Another month..." Tang Yun was somewhat disappointed, and yet somewhat glad. If Wei Zhao woke now, and saw her, how was she to face him? Both the Grand Elder and Elder Zhang had said that once he drank the Herb of Forgetfulness potion, he would forget his beloved when next he woke. Would Wei Zhao have already forgotten her?
And so Tang Yun began to fret over her gains and losses.
