Chapter 378 — The Fall of a God
The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2
Shen Mu shook his head and walked over to Mu Qingdai, examining her body as he spoke. "It is not that my comprehension or gifts are unmatched in this age, and refining a Primordial Spirit at the Six Harmonies realm is no great feat. Sister Yuxiu has done it as well. Refining a Primordial Spirit is not difficult. Yuxiu and I refined ours in a muddle-headed sort of way, and then the Primordial Spirit simply left our bodies."
Long Yu was speechless. He shook his head.
Wang Muran's expression turned grave. "The Sixth Princess of Jingping has refined a Primordial Spirit too? The State of Jingping truly cannot be underestimated—its younger generation boasts a great many experts. Shut up in Little Jade Capital, closing ourselves off from the world, we really may fall behind the times!"
A hidden worry took root in his heart. Little Jade Capital possessed many divine arts, and any single one of its supreme techniques was enough to found a sect of one's own—but Jingping's reforms and changes were raging like wildfire. When the law changed, the Way changed, and divine abilities would evolve along with them. If Little Jade Capital could not keep pace with the reforms, it would surely be cast aside.
Take Shen Mu and the Sixth Princess Ling Yuxiu's dual cultivation, refining a Primordial Spirit at the Six Harmonies realm—this was one of the signs of a changing law.
Shen Mu and Ling Yuxiu had not yet realized what a tremendous impact and shock this innovation of theirs would deliver to cultivators everywhere. If they could find the underlying principle behind refining a Primordial Spirit and spread it far and wide, they would be worthy of the name Grand Masters, and their standing in the history of cultivation would rank alongside that of the Imperial Preceptor of Jingping—perhaps even surpass him!
The Imperial Preceptor of Jingping's creation of the other three basic sword techniques had likewise been one of the signs of a changing law, and it had cemented his achievement as a Grand Master.
And refining a Primordial Spirit at the Six Harmonies realm was of even greater importance than those three basic sword techniques: it would benefit every wielder of divine abilities, greatly raising the cultivation and strength of every realm—Six Harmonies, Seven Stars, Heaven-Human, Life-Death, and Spirit Bridge!
Wang Muran told Shen Mu his view of the matter. Shen Mu was taken aback for a moment. "I had not thought of that... but you make a great deal of sense. Once we are back in the capital, I will have a talk with Sister Yuxiu; perhaps we can find the principle behind it."
He used his Azure Heaven Eye to survey Mu Qingdai's body inside and out, identifying various hidden ailments, and at once refined a spirit pill for her to swallow.
Under his gaze Mu Qingdai grew rather bashful, and thought to herself, He is a divine physician, he is a divine physician...
And then she heard the divine physician Shen muttering under his breath: "A woman's body seems to be built differently from a man's. They do not have that thing... so how do they pee..."
Mu Qingdai's face went scarlet, and she glared at him.
Shen Mu hastily went to examine Long Yu's injuries, and after a long while he finally healed the wounds of both Long Yu and Wang Muran.
Long Qilin shuffled over and said awkwardly, "Cult Master, look at the swords stuck in me..."
More than a dozen flying swords were still embedded in its body.
Shen Mu shot it a glance and said with a cold smile, "Is my hair still a mess?"
"Every strand in perfect order! Wait—this one strand is out of place..."
Long Qilin had just stretched out its great tongue when Shen Mu reached out, hooked his fingers in a sword gesture, and—phut, phut—more than a dozen flying swords shot out of Long Qilin's body in unison, blood spurting in wild jets.
Long Qilin howled in agony.
"Go on and lick, then!" Shen Mu said viciously.
So he said—but all the same he took out bottle after bottle of dragon saliva and swiftly poured it into the wounds, circulating his vital essence to help squeeze out the clotted blood and seal them shut.
Long Qilin said ingratiatingly, "Cult Master, I have done a great service this time, so my rations..."
Shen Mu paid it no mind and went to stand before the great deer. The deer was in far worse shape than Long Qilin, with more than twice as many flying swords stuck in its body, and it was still rubbing itself back and forth in Long Qilin's saliva.
Shen Mu shook his head. First he set the great deer's bones, then fetched more than a dozen bottles of dragon saliva to staunch the bleeding, and then drew out the flying swords one by one.
Much recovered from his injuries, Wang Muran ran over, picked up the deer antlers, and stuck them back on the great deer's head.
"Little Master, the antlers are on backwards," the great deer reminded him.
"Oh!"
Wang Muran hastily yanked the antlers out, drawing a spray of blood, and the great deer cried out in pain. Wang Muran hurriedly turned them the right way and stuck them back in, then begged a bottle of dragon saliva from Shen Mu and sprinkled it over the wounds.
Shen Mu went on to treat the wounds of the other flood dragons, and he had been busy at it for quite a while when all at once the sky outside turned snow-white, then just as suddenly darkened to a murky black, and then brightened once more.
Everyone hurried to look outside. The torrential rain had stopped dead, and a straight crack had opened across the sky, as if a great sword had cleaved it in two!
"This is..."
Shen Mu was shaken to the core. He murmured, "The Sun-Shooting Divine Cannon..."
From the riven sky, red lines suddenly came falling, one after another. Shen Mu raised a hand as if to catch them, then his expression changed drastically and he hastily dodged aside.
The red lines pattered down in front of the palace; wherever they fell, flowers bloomed across the hills and fields, and grass and trees shot up in a frenzy.
Divine blood fell from the heavens, as though the sky itself were wailing in grief.
A god had fallen.
