Chapter 1484 — Utterly Shocked

The Blossom Guardian

A flicker of anger crossed Yu Bing's face, yet he made no reply at all, which only left Wei Zhao all the more puzzled.

Only when the four of them had gone far, until their backs had vanished from sight, did Yu Bing suddenly raise his clenched fist, fury and resentment warring with unwillingness in him: "What sort of bizarre cultivation method is that? I actually could not resist him in the slightest! Could it be... he is a man of an ancient sect? Using the legendary domain?"

Angry and unwilling as he was, Yu Bing did not immediately give chase to settle the score. He was no fool. The other's method was so uncanny, and he had never heard of any hidden family or ordinary sect that practiced such a formidable art. Put together with the tyrannical method he had seen Zhang Naipao use the day before, Yu Bing could all but conclude it: Feng Nitian came from an ancient sect or an ancient clan.

Moreover, the method he had employed bore some resemblance to a legendary domain his grandfather had mentioned from time to time. But that domain was appallingly difficult to cultivate, and it was further constrained by one's own constitution — not just anyone could practice it. So Yu Bing had never thought much of the matter at the time.

Yet now that he had lived through it himself, he finally understood how terrifying a domain could be.

In that instant his body had seemed shackled by something, unable to move the fraction of an inch, all his fury with nowhere to spend it. If such a method were ever turned on you in real combat, would that not be the same as standing there waiting to die? It was far too dreadful.

"What? That man is from an ancient sect as well?" Wei Zhao had not quite taken in Yu Bing's words and had no idea what he meant. "What is a domain?"

"Do you know? Lin... Ling Yi — just now, when he struck me across the face, my body could not move at all, and I could not fight back! It was as though some invisible force was hauling at me, as though a immobilization spell had been laid upon me!" Yu Bing laughed bitterly. "If my guess is right, that man came out of an ancient clan or an ancient sect. People like that... we cannot afford to cross. Forget it... just like Zhang Naipao yesterday — the methods they cultivate are things we can only crane our necks to look up at. We are not in the same weight class at all..."

"Another one come out of that ancient tier?" Wei Zhao frowned. No wonder Yu Bing's reaction had struck him as so strange — so that was the reason. "I thought you held back because something lay behind it, or I would have moved myself..."

"It's a good thing you didn't, or you'd have taken a beating too..." Yu Bing sighed. "Never mind. Let's drop it. A hidden family slapped in the face by someone of an ancient clan — it's hardly anything disgraceful. This score can't be settled; we can only call ourselves unlucky..."

"Can't be settled?" Wei Zhao echoed lightly, thoughtful.

"Of course it can't... By the way, how are you? Still feeling wretched? Your complexion looks rather good, actually. Have you thought it through?" Yu Bing waved his hand, letting his own business drop, and turned to asking after Wei Zhao.

"I'm all right. Let's talk in your room." Wei Zhao indicated the room behind Yu Bing.

There was hardly a soul in the inn's corridor at that moment, but walls have ears, and certain important matters were better said behind a closed door.

"Very well, let's go." Yu Bing nodded and turned back into his room. He wanted to tell Wei Zhao first about what he had discussed with his little sister, so that the man might feel more at ease. Otherwise, leaving in such dejection, he had no idea whether Wei Zhao would give up on himself once he went home — and that was not the outcome he or his little sister wished to see.

Wei Zhao followed him inside and shut the door. "This trial, it seems, is going to be worth playing. A Zhang Naipao, plus that creature from the ancient clan just now — we finally have opponents."

"We?" Yu Bing started slightly. "You're still going to take part in the trial? You're not joking, are you? Wei Zhao, you may have lost all your strength, but there's no need to force yourself, and certainly no need to give up on yourself. I've already told Xiao Ning about your situation... Don't worry. The two of us will help you."

"You told her?" At that, Wei Zhao could not help but laugh a helpless, rueful laugh.

"I turned it over and over, and in the end I couldn't keep it from her. She'll worry once she knows, true, but I need her help — to procure some cultivation medicines for you from the family." Yu Bing said. "Rest assured: with Xiao Ning and me here, we'll have you back on the path of cultivation before long..."

"That tongue of yours... is quick..." Wei Zhao shrugged, caught between tears and laughter. "I told you yesterday... it's fine. I don't need any cultivation medicines..."

"Wei Zhao, there's no need for courtesy between the two of us. You don't have to stand on ceremony with me." Yu Bing insisted.

"What is there to stand on ceremony about, between you and me? We're old friends..." Wei Zhao said. "But I truly don't need it... and I don't need to set foot on the path of cultivation again either."

"What are you saying?" Yu Bing stared, nonplussed at Wei Zhao's words. "Don't tell me yesterday, when Zhang Naipao broke through using your true qi, it went to your head?"

Wei Zhao had no way out of it. He could only circulate the inner method of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, releasing in an instant the full power of his late-stage Xuan Rank. Facts speak louder than argument: one glance at Yu Bing's face told Wei Zhao that whatever he said, the man would take it for mere comfort — so he had better let him see it with his own eyes.

"An enemy?" Sensing Wei Zhao suddenly circulating an inner method, Yu Bing's instinct was that an enemy had arrived. But the next instant he came sharply awake, and stared at Wei Zhao with eyes blown wide, as though he had seen a ghost. "You... you... how did you..."

"Late stage of the Xuan Rank... I broke through." Wei Zhao drew his true qi back into his body, halted the circulation of the method, and returned to normal, then said to Yu Bing.

"You... you weren't crippled after all? You can still break through?" As if he had heard some tale out of the Arabian Nights, Yu Bing could not believe it. "Didn't you turn into a cripple yesterday?"

"Yesterday I merely lost my strength; after a night's sleep it came back today," Wei Zhao said. "I'm fairly sure I told you yesterday that I was fine. Perfectly fine!"

"Damn!" Yu Bing suddenly felt that whatever ancient sects and ancient families there might be, compared with the man before him they were laughably weak — this one was the real thing! All his strength gone yesterday, and a breakthrough today!

Say what you will, no wonder Grandfather called Xiao Ning the hope of the Yu family's glory. If Xiao Ning really pulled Wei Zhao into the Yu family's camp, that would be something else entirely. Is this fellow some kind of cockroach? Gravely wounded yesterday, healed today?
