Chapter 1486 — Let Me Tell You Some Good News

The Blossom Guardian

"Yes, yes!" Another person nodded in agreement.

After the meal, Wei Zhao and Yu Bing rose and took their leave; they had gathered about all the information they needed. The man who had been keeping company with Yu Shan that morning was named Feng Nitian, of the ancient Feng family. His signature art was the Heaven-Defying Divine Skill, which could freeze a person in place for roughly three minutes.

"What do you make of it? Any countermeasure?" After hearing all that talk, Yu Bing felt a deep dread settle over him. The grudge was already struck; should Zhang Naipao cross paths with Wei Zhao during the trial, he would surely hold nothing back — he would hunt him down and slaughter him.

And as for Yu Shan, having thrown in his lot with Feng Nitian, Yu Bing himself was now in danger too. Yu Shan would most likely borrow Feng Nitian's hand to rid himself of Yu Bing and clear the last obstacle to his becoming young family head. That being so, he and Wei Zhao had made enemies of the two strongest figures in this trial; he could not help but worry.

Wei Zhao was remarkable, true, but two fists could hardly beat four hands, and Feng Nitian's skill was not something one could simply break. Yu Bing, at least, had no idea how it might be broken. This was a divine art handed down from ancient times; no ordinary cultivation method could hold against it.

Yu Bing still remembered vividly how it felt to have his whole body bound by Feng Nitian — he truly had not been able to stir a hairsbreadth. Had Feng Nitian chosen to kill him then, Yu Bing could only have watched and waited for death.

"Managing, more or less," Wei Zhao said mildly. "I haven't yet hit on a complete solution, but we can take the risk — or strike first and seize the upper hand."

Wei Zhao, by contrast, felt calmer still after hearing these people discuss Feng Nitian. Zhang Naipao, Feng Nitian — both had made their name in crooked and unorthodox paths, but when it came to a face-to-face fight, they might well hold no advantage at all.

Wei Zhao could therefore play to his strengths and shun his weaknesses. So long as he found a way to crack the two men's ultimate arts, dealing with them would become far simpler.

For the moment he had no method, but Wei Zhao reckoned that finding one was only a matter of time — no great difficulty.

"That's good, then..." Yu Bing pinned all his hopes on Wei Zhao. If Wei Zhao had a way, so much the better. Yet though he said as much, unease still stirred in his heart. Whatever came, he could not shrink back from this trial. To shrink back would be to admit defeat to Yu Shan — and then not even his grandfather and father could prop him up.

It seemed the road ahead was exceedingly perilous.

Wei Zhao saw the worry in Yu Bing's face. Back at the inn, before they parted for their separate rooms, Wei Zhao clapped him on the shoulder and said in consolation, "Rest easy. When the time comes, if those two ancients leave me alone, well and good. But if they provoke me, don't blame me for being impolite — they'll walk in on their own two feet and go home in wheelchairs."

"Ha, good! With those words, I'm at ease!" Yu Bing's heart did loosen. Thinking of how extraordinary Wei Zhao was, perhaps a miracle really might come to pass.

Once back in his room, Wei Zhao set his mind to thinking of a plan. Yu Bing, returning to his own room, immediately called his younger sister Yu Ning.

"Brother... how goes it? Is he all right?" Yu Ning, like Yu Bing, had barely slept all night. She had been turning over how to ask the family for spirit medicine, and worrying over Wei Zhao's safety besides, keeping the phone close at hand the whole while, waiting for her elder brother to reach out to her.

So the instant the phone rang, Yu Ning answered.

"Answering that fast?" Yu Bing was taken aback for a moment, then understood his sister's heart and laughed. "Xiao Ning, you seem terribly worried."

"Mm... Brother, how can you joke at a time like this?" Yu Ning was a little displeased, but since it was her own elder brother, she could hardly fly into a temper.

"Heh, what joke? What mood would I be in for joking?" Yu Bing stopped teasing her and said outright, "Little sister, I have good news for you!"

"What good news? Never mind that for now." Yu Ning said, "Brother, tell me first — how is he?"

"Little sister, your worry is clouding your judgment! You truly don't want to hear the good news? And the good news is about Wei Zhao!" Yu Bing said with a smile.

"Wei Zhao? Good news about him? Isn't he..." Yu Ning frowned slightly, and then sudden delight broke across her face. "Has something turned around?"

"Little sister, your judgment... is truly heaven-defying. I can only admire you; you read people far too accurately!" Yu Bing sighed. "Do you know? Yesterday, Wei Zhao was crippled — truly crippled, not a shred of strength left in him. I could feel it; he was even weaker than an ordinary man. Then this morning he came to find me, and guess what?"

"What... he's recovered half?" Yu Ning hazarded a bold guess, though she thought it unlikely — she had never heard of anyone who lost all their strength recovering most of it overnight. But her elder brother had heaped praise on Wei Zhao and said she had an eye for people, which surely meant Wei Zhao was formidable indeed. So Yu Ning made a bold guess.

When her brother declared her judgment heaven-defying, Yu Ning had flushed a little, but now she had no attention to spare for such trifles.

"No. Guess again!" Yu Bing kept her in suspense, shaking his head.

"Then... a third of it recovered?" Yu Ning lowered her assumption; after all, her earlier guess had been too bold by half.

"Little sister, can't you guess a little more boldly? Is your judgment really so poor? Think — this is heaven-defying we're speaking of!" Yu Bing said, shaking his head.

"Surely he hasn't recovered completely, as good as before? That can't be possible... really?" Yu Ning cried out in astonishment.

"He hasn't recovered as good as before," Yu Bing said.

"Just as I thought... if he could recover overnight, would he even be human..." Yu Ning patted her chest; she had startled herself just now.

"I haven't finished speaking..." Yu Bing said. "Not recovered as good as before — he broke through. Before, he was at the peak of the middle stage of the Xuan Rank; this morning, he was at the late stage of the Xuan Rank!"

"Ah?" Yu Ning nearly flung the phone from her hand in shock. She clutched it tight, her breathing turning uneven. "Brother... you... are you serious? You're not lying to me?"

"Why would I lie to you? Don't you trust your own judgment?" Yu Bing said with a bitter smile at his sister's excitement. In truth, when he had first learned the news himself, he too had been shocked half to death.
