Chapter 2355 — Yu Ning Matters
At the thought, Old Master Yu felt somewhat gloomier. At the Hidden Household Summit, he'd had a perfect chance to finish Wei Zhao off, and he had let it slip away. Now, killing Wei Zhao was no simple matter...
"Old Master Yu, I know a thing or two about the business between Wei Zhao and your Yu family. With Yu Ning in the picture, there will be a reckoning between your family and Wei Zhao one day!" Old Master Zhao said. "Some things cannot be avoided! For the sake of his woman, Wei Zhao toppled Qibing's building and broke both of Qibing's legs. For that same woman, he went all the way to the Ice Palace to beg for medicine. And for his few underlings, how many men has he killed? Unless you hand Yu Ning over to him, well, heh—heh, your Yu family will end up as Wei Zhao's enemy!"
Old Master Zhao and Old Master Yu were in-laws, and he knew a great deal of the Yu family's affairs in detail. Take Wei Zhao and Yu Ning's relationship: others might not know of it, but Old Master Zhao did.
"What do you mean? Use our Hidden Yu family's hand to avenge your Hidden Zhao family?" Though Old Master Yu turned it over and over in his mind, the thought of doing away with Wei Zhao still held the greater weight—yet he had never been able to make up his mind.
Especially after learning that it was the Zhao family who had taken the Qi Gathering Pill, Old Master Yu's hatred for Wei Zhao had cooled considerably.
"Whether to kill him or not, that is for you to weigh, Old Master Yu. I won't say more." Old Master Zhao was a clever man, and knew when to stop. "Well, I won't keep you from your rest. One word: prolong indecision, and you invite your own ruin!"
Old Master Yu put down the phone and sank into thought. It was not that he had never considered killing Wei Zhao—nor that he had never tried—but none of it had succeeded.
As he sat brooding, the phone rang again. Old Master Yu assumed it was Old Master Zhao calling back, but when he saw the number on the screen, his gaze sharpened at once, his pupils dilating abruptly. He seized the phone and answered quickly, saying in a breathless, cautious voice, "This is Yu Tianxing, head of the Yu family."
"Yu Tianxing, the Master bids me inform you. The plan as originally set is temporarily canceled!" The caller showed not the slightest deference to the fact that he was speaking to Old Master Yu; instead he used a tone of command.
"Canceled? Ah?" Old Master Yu was startled. "What plan?" he asked, puzzled.
"The matter agreed upon earlier—Yu Ning's participation in the Mystic Pill Sect trial. It is canceled!" Seeing that Old Master Yu had not caught on, the other said bluntly.
"Canceled? Was it not agreed that she would pass this trial and receive the inheritance? Why is it canceled now?" Old Master Yu's heart lurched! This had been settled long ago—the great chance for the Yu family's rise. Once Yu Ning received the water-element inheritance and became a water-element inheritor, the Yu family would ascend with her, one attaining the Dao and the whole clan raised to heaven with them. Their standing would surely surpass the Hidden Households; breaking into the ranks of the Ancient Households would be only a matter of time. Yet now those people were calling to say the plan was canceled—how could Old Master Yu accept it?
At any other time, Old Master Yu would never have dared to question them aloud. Whatever those people told him to do, he did. But this time it was different. This concerned the great matter of the Yu family's rise—a grand plan schemed for since the generation of his father, who had failed to receive the inheritance himself. How could it simply be canceled?
"Because the earlier plan has suddenly changed! This trial is far too dangerous. Yu Ning has another arrangement; she cannot risk receiving the inheritance. This time the inheritor will be someone else." The other paused a moment, then explained.
After all, they had decades of ties with the Yu family. Ever since Old Master Yu's father had taken him, then a young man, traveling, they had forged their bond. One might say the Hidden Yu family was their mouthpiece at the hidden level.
"Ah... also a water-element inheritor?" Old Master Yu was stunned, his heart bleeding.
"No." The other answered definitively. "Think no more of it—this differs from an ordinary water-element inheritance! I can only disclose the rough outline; knowing too much of the specifics will do you no good! Yu Ning has another arrangement. The Master has already found a way to probe the Endless Western Sea. That is the birthplace of the ancient water-element inheritance, and we intend to send Yu Ning there!"
"Ah? If it is not the water-element inheritance, why go so far when there is a nearer way? There is no conflict..." Old Master Yu breathed a sigh of relief, yet felt puzzled as well.
"Because of certain unavoidable incidents, the rules of this trial have been changed." The other did not hide it. "The conditions for this trial have been altered from the former limit—Mystic rank and above, Earth rank and below—to Mystic rank and above, with no upper limit!"
"What! Mystic rank and above, no upper limit? Then if experts above Earth rank go there, would that not draw..." Old Master Yu was startled, badly frightened!
"Yu Tianxing, some things you need only understand yourself. Do not breathe a word of them." The other's tone carried a warning. "By now you should understand: we keep Yu Ning away for her own safety. This trial is too dangerous—if she came here at her current strength, she would die without question! Besides, this trial serves another purpose. Yu Ning matters greatly, so she goes to the Endless Western Sea instead!"
"I understand!" Though deeply shocked, Old Master Yu suppressed his questions and nodded. "I know what to do!"
"Good. Protect Yu Ning and the other girl well. Let there be no mishap!" the other warned. "And the Master instructed specifically: she must remain a virgin! On no account may she be deflowered—otherwise, Yu Tianxing, you know the consequences!"
"Yes! Rest assured, Ancestor Xuanchen. Tianxing will not fail this trust!" Old Master Yu said in fear and trembling.
"That is all, then!" The other hung up.
Old Master Yu, however, clutched the phone, his heart unable to settle for a long while. By a hair, the Yu family had nearly missed its shot at glory—but now it seemed the outcome was still good. Since Ancestor Xuanchen had reminded him that Yu Ning must remain a virgin, it showed they truly still needed her—and that she was to go to the Endless Western Sea, an even mightier birthplace of the water-element inheritance, to receive it. At that thought, Old Master Yu breathed easier.
Only, this one phone call had settled a resolve in Old Master Yu's heart: to do away with Wei Zhao! If Wei Zhao were not removed, some uncontrollable thing might well erupt—what if he spirited Yu Ning away, or deflowered her? Then Old Master Yu would have nowhere to go even to weep. RQ
