Chapter 621 — Deep Hatred Hard to Dissolve

The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2

The offering procession bore the beasts aloft, singing and dancing, circling the whole city before the beasts were carried up to the tall altars scattered through the city. Upon the altars stood demon gods, faces wreathed in smiles, watching the revelry of their kin.

At such times, sturdy young demon men and women would lead their livestock and vie with one another to climb the altars, presenting their offerings to the demon gods.

To be the first to lead one's beast onto the altar was a great honor.

And there was not one such procession but hundreds, thousands, demon clans competing with one another throughout the city, so that the clamor was tremendous.

A beam of light descended from the heavens, and Chixi arrived upon one of the altars.

"You foul old schemer, you dared to plot against me!"

His voice was like a thunderclap, shaking the joyous, clamorous festival. Every demon stopped. Countless gazes fell upon Chixi.

The demon god upon the altar had been roaring with laughter, about to seize the offering brought up by a young member of its clan, when Chixi appeared out of nowhere, catching even it off guard.

Beneath Chixi's feet, the teleportation runes wrought of shining light were slowly fading. His three heads rose one after another and looked in every direction.

"Demons!"

The execution overseer of the Chiming era flew into a sudden, towering rage, and his three heads loosed a world-shaking, desolate roar: "Demons—"

"My people crossed billions of stars with me, leaped over who knows how many death zones, endured untold hardship to come near our ancestral land! And it was the demons—"

"It was the demons who, without a word, slaughtered their way into our planets! Who killed my people and exterminated my race!"

One by one, his withered, yellowed hairs flew upward, like thousands upon thousands of yellow swords sweeping in every direction. The attack lasted but an instant. In every direction, for hundreds of yards around, every demon was clutching at its own throat.

Someone raised a hand and looked at their palm. The palm that had clutched their throat came away warm with demon blood.

Someone bowed their head, and their head slid abruptly from their neck and fell.

Before the altar, upon a tall flower float, the flower pillar bore a multicolored canopy. The canopy slid slowly down, its pole cut clean through. A building tilted suddenly, its roof sliding gradually askew before it crashed to the ground with a thunderous boom.

Then, one after another, the roofs of the great halls came sliding down; the rooftops and canopies of the houses came sliding down as well.

Within hundreds of yards, heads fell to the ground, and blood spurted from severed necks.

Countless streams of blood essence turned to red threads in the air and flew toward Chixi.

Upon the altar where Chixi had descended, the demon god had dodged his strike. At the sight before it, its eyes split at the corners with rage, and with a roar it reached out, seized two demon-god weapons, and charged at Chixi.

Chixi's six arms moved like a raging storm; in the space of a single instant he struck countless blows, shattering the demon-god weapons and smashing that demon god to powder!

Other demon gods flew up from their altars and came screaming in to kill. One of them recognized Chixi, and a desolate shriek arose: "It is him! He is the one who brought those planets down upon our Luofu Heaven! He is the one who destroyed our Luofu Heaven and buried countless of our kin! He killed our former Sovereign King—"

"Kill!"

Countless voices rose throughout Gu City. Numberless demon powerhouses, their fury reaching the heavens, swarmed toward Chixi.

Before long, Gu City was dead silent.

Chixi's six eyes were blood red, and he panted hoarsely. By now he had absorbed enough blood essence to return to his former peak. By rights, he could have withdrawn and gone, fighting no more. Yet still he killed on and on, until in all that demon city there was not a single living thing left that could stand!

"I carried my people across the starry void for a thousand years, a thousand years, only to find our ancestral land! And it was you who killed my people, leaving only me. Heh heh, only me..."

His six arms spread wide, reaching out in every direction, and one after another the demon-god weapons he had crippled and broken flew up, striking against one another around him with dull booms into great spheres of metal.

From Chixi's three heads poured fire, refining and melting those fragments of demon-god weapons, forging from them six gleaming orange divine blades.

Chixi's six arms grasped the blades, and he looked into the distance. There, in the distance, more demon gods were hurrying over from the other demon cities.
